Data Analyst

Job Summary

HR Consulting at Spinnaker Global provides benchmarking reporting and consultancy services to the maritime industry. HR Consulting currently employs 9 staff but with workload increasing, the benchmarking team requires an additional full-time Analyst to support its growing customer base.

The jobholder provides data analysis skills to support the collation, management and validation of salary data provided by members of the Maritime HR Association and Seafarer Employers' Association.

The company has provided commissioned benchmarking advice for over 10 years, and we have over 100 members (shipowners, shipmanagers, oil companies and commodity groups).

Spinnaker's HR Consulting business has grown steadily out of the company's reputation for being trustworthy, and having an in depth knowledge and understanding of the global shipping industry.

Additional consulting services are provided through the production of salary surveys for P&I companies and other similar surveys are a possibility in the future. The consultancy is currently expanding further into wider HR consultancy services for the shipping industry with a focus on career management and leadership development.

Location - Office-based, Leigh-on-Sea, Essex.

Reports to – Benchmarking Manager, HR Consulting

Main Duties & Responsibilities

The jobholder is expected to assist in acquiring data from members of the associations, validating the data (including raising queries with members and chasing for answers). Additionally, they will be required to respond to ad-hoc queries from the membership regarding published survey data. Other activity associated with the production and delivery of the surveys will be necessary from time to time.

The jobholder is expected to work as a member of the team, but will also be capable of working with minimal supervision.

The work requires persistence, diligence and focus.


The successful candidate will possess the following:

  • Excellent numeracy and literacy skills
  • Organised and methodical in approach
  • High attention to detail
  • Good knowledge of Excel (including formulae and conditional formatting)
  • Excellent interpersonal & communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task and respond to changing priorities.


A minimum of 2 years' working in an office environment requiring frequent use of Excel.

Knowledge of the maritime industry is not essential but would be an advantage.

Experience working in Compensation & Benefits would be an advantage.
